Icelandic volcano

Following a volcanic eruption in Iceland on Wednesday 14 April, a large ash cloud is moving over UK airspace.

The volcanic ash is currently high up in the UK’s atmosphere.

Currently the ash cloud has had no recorded impact on air or water quality and there are no immediate concerns for animal health.

Sites across the UK to will continue to monitor air pollution, and Defra will work with the Met Office to keep the situation under review.

Any further updates on the effect on the environment or animal health and welfare will be made on the defra website and industry alerted.
