Welsh feed rules extended as cold snap continues

WITH farmers across Wales still experiencing one of the hardest winters for more than 30 years the Welsh Assembly Government has further relaxed the rules on supplementary feeding.

The move is aimed at making it easier for livestock farmers facing severe problems as a result of freezing weather conditions to feed their animals.

The relaxation, initially set to run until January 31, is now being kept in place until February 28.

“It means farmers in agri-environment schemes which normally impose restrictions on supplementary feeding will now be able to give their livestock additional feed to help maintain animal welfare during the cold period,” said an Assembly spokesman.

“This is a temporary relaxation and takes immediate effect for the duration of the severe cold weather.”
