February price rise from First Milk

FIRST Milk has confirmed it will raise standard litre milk price by 0.25ppl from 1 February 2010.

Chairman Bill Mustoe said the move was a ‘step in the right direction’ and came about following a number of cost cutting measures at the processor.

He also said the processor would look to make further increases on price as soon as it could.

The price increase was welcomed by NFU Scotland’s Milk Committee chairman, Jimmy Mitchell who praised the new chairman, Mr Mustoe for rallying the performance of First Milk.

He said: “This price increase, although small, will be welcomed by First Milk members and I hope it encourages all other milk processors to react immediately in a similar positive manner.

“The statement strongly suggests that further business improvements and price increases may be in the pipeline and we plan to meet with Mr Mustoe and some of his staff shortly to hear more about his business plans.”
