Bidston Moss

Partnership working has been the order of the day at Bidston £255,000 ICEP Mersey Forest Grant Moss, where an ICEP Mersey Forest Grant has complemented investment by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), the Forestry Commission, Groundwork Wirral, Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority and Wirral Council to transform an area of brownfield land six times the size of Wembley Stadium into community woodland.

Located to the west of the M53 motorway, the 68-hectare site forms a key gateway area into the Liverpool City Region – as well as being located close to the 'NewHeartlands' Housing Market Renewal area.

"The Newlands scheme aims to support the economic and environmental regeneration of the Northwest and at Bidston Moss more than £2.7m has been committed by the NWDA and partners to help achieve this goal. Restoring and securing the environmental quality of Bidston Moss will create a new woodland for the benefit of the local community and will contribute to the significant changes that are revitalising inner Wirral.

The partnership working ethic, between the NWDA, the Forestry Commission and a wide number of local partners including The Mersey Forest, has been critical to the project's achievements to date and will be a key ingredient in the sustained success of Bidston Moss."

- Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA)

Tree planting, landscaping, signage and the extension of cycling routes have all helped to enhance Bidston Moss, which is one of the sites being developed under “Newlands” – a region-wide scheme to regenerate brownfield land for socio-economic benefits.

The four composite sites that make up Bidston Moss were carefully chosen following an intensive land survey, which used region-wide aerial photography.

By improving the aesthetics of the area, the Bidston Moss Project partnership is working to encourage new investment and revitalise not only the appearance but also the economy of the local area.
