Bates farm & Diary Ltd

Bates Farm and Dairy was established in 1939 and two generations later the business is still supplying milk to its base in Southport and through the North West.

The installation of a new bottling line has been coupled to a purchasing agreement from a group of Wirral farmers. 20,000 litres of milk is picked up from the Wirral daily and is bottled and distributed through the company's fleet of over 50 vehicles.

"The assistance and grant aid have helped us increase turnover by 25%, increase processing capacity, improve our service through more and better trained staff and has given the company the confidence to invest a further £200k in the site’s facilities."

- Stephen Bates, Bates Farm & Dairy Ltd

The arrangement ensures a consistent quality supply of assured milk for Bates and the farmers gain a premium for milk sold. The ‘food miles’ travelled by the milk are minimised and customers receive a fresh product within 24 hours of production.

The grant aid has enabled turnover to increase and further investment in new buildings and the expansion of the distribution and logistics systems.
