Environment

The Merseyside countryside and environment is extremely diverse ranging from coastal sand dunes to the enclosed tight field patterns on the Wirral, to the open fields of horticulture in Sefton to arable, grassland and equestrian paddocks in St Helens. A wide range of farmland and coastal birds richly serves the area.

Environmental Stewardship

Environmental Stewardship is a new agri-environment scheme which provides funding to farmers and other land managers in England who deliver effective environmental management on their land. The scheme is intended to build on the recognised success of the Environmental Sensitive Areas scheme and the countryside Stewardship Scheme. (More...)

Biodiversity

The rich environmental heritage of Merseyside is reflected in the Biodiversity Action Plans for the area. There are in two main plans, one for North Merseyside and one for the Wirral that contain information on priority habitats and species. Further information on the content of the documents is available from your local authority or the local Wildlife Trust.

Farmer and Land Owner Environmental pollution control

Our aim is to protect and improve the environment, and to integrate the environment with other policies across Government and in international fora. Schemes include Good Agricultural Practice, Manner, Plant Nutrient Management and Nitrate Vulnerable Zones. (More...)
